FIBERGLASS POOL REFINISHING: GELCOATS

Shocking news about gelcoats.
In January I was at the Pool and Spa show in Atlantic City, NJ. I was in a booth with a manufacturer that had a one piece fiberglass pool on display.
He was offering a life time structural gaurantee on the shell and a 10-year guarantee on his vinyl ester gelcoat finish. The man I spoke with was the chemist of this company. He told me that you could not put a vinyl ester gelcoat on an old fiberglass pool that was manufactured with a polyester, GP or an ISO  resin. He also stated it would fail quickly by blistering and delamination. This is probably one of the reasons that any do-it-yourself fiberglass pool resurfacing companies on the Internet will never offer a guarantee. Consumer be aware.

This was shocking news to me. I did not know this.
Now I know one of the major reasons why a national manufacturer of any kind of gelcoat could not offer a warranty on a redo.
